The Blitz is Back: One Maidstone and MBC hit the High Street for day of deep cleaning
One Maidstone is once again taking to the streets to clean up the town centre, with contractors Maidstone Borough Council undertaking a targeted deep clean on behalf of the Business Improvement District. (BID)
Tuesday 27th August will see partner organisations One Maidstone, MBC and KCC head to Lower High Street to concentrate on tasks such as gum and graffiti removal, removal of all litter and rubbish, power washing of street, repainting, delivery of new bins and licensing visits for A-Boards and tables and chairs.
One Maidstone’s BID Manager, Ilsa Butler said:
“It’s incredibly important to the town centre businesses that we represent that the area is kept clean and attractive. We believe that a visually appealing and visitor-friendly appearance encourages more trade, both from local shoppers and workers, and brings more tourism to the area. Whilst the Council already maintains regular cleaning services, these deep cleans provide extra polish and tackle tasks that aren’t covered by the standard responsibilities of MBC.”
The contract was awarded to MBC by One Maidstone after a successful application was made by the Council during the tender process. The Council are employed by One Maidstone to perform cleaning duties outlined by the BID in addition to their standard Street Cleansing operations. This partnership working between leading agencies and authorities ensures that the best level of service is delivered by those who know Maidstone best.
The first day of action for this scheme took place in June, entitled the Bank Street Blitz, and concentrated on the Middle Row area. Other areas throughout the town centre will be attended to in similar exercises throughout the year.
