One Maidstone supports re-opening of town centre

The One Maidstone Business Improvement District forms part of a co-working committee established to plan for the re-opening of non-essential retail stores from June 15th in Maidstone town centre.

Comprised of representatives from One Maidstone, Kent Police, Kent County Council, Maidstone Borough Council, the Mall and Fremlin Walk, the group carried out a walking tour in order to identify potential issues which may arise and to discuss ways of helping central businesses to trade safely.

BID Manager Ilsa Butler explains the need for this kind of collaborative effort:

‘Representing town centre businesses, the One Maidstone Business Improvement District welcomes plans for a phased re-opening of trade for Maidstone, after an extended period of uncertainty for many workers and business owners.

Trading will resume in stages whilst observing correct procedures and maintaining social distancing – One Maidstone is carefully monitoring and sharing official guidelines with town centre businesses, and is liaising closely with partner organisations such as Kent Police and Maidstone Borough Council to share relevant messages and implement necessary systems.’
