Our ambassadors provide a welcome and help to residents and visitors.
Working with Kent Police and Maidstone Borough Council’s cleansing and enforcement teams, the ambassadors are the ‘eyes and ears’ of business, helping to spot and deter nuisance issues, such as crime, anti-social behaviour, littering and vandalism.
The ambassador scheme, which covers the daytime and evening economies, is one of our top priorities. Why? Because it was one of yours.
When we proposed a Business Improvement District for Maidstone, it quickly became apparent that the top concerns of town centre businesses were around perceptions of a lack of safety, a poor first impression of the town centre for visitors and customers and crime – in particular anti social behaviour relating to vagrancy, begging and youth gang culture in certain areas of the town centre.
The town centre ambassadors was a key selling point within the business plan when inviting businesses to vote for the BID, so we’re delighted our team were on the streets within weeks of the BID starting.
